Dr. Luxme Hariharan is a board-certified pediatric ophthalmologist with extensive expertise in clinical and surgical care for children, as well as a nationally and internationally recognized leader in childhood blindness prevention.
She most recently served as Chief of Ophthalmology and Chief Population Health Officer at Dayton Children’s Hospital, where she led pediatric eye care initiatives and advanced population health strategies. Previously, Dr. Hariharan also served as Chief Medical Advisor for the University of Wisconsin–Madison Global Health Institute, where she lead global pediatric eye health and nutrition programs through the One Health One Child initiative.
Her clinical specialties include strabismus, amblyopia, retinopathy of prematurity, pediatric cataracts and glaucoma, vision screening, telemedicine, and inpatient and emergency pediatric ophthalmology care. Dr. Hariharan completed her pediatric ophthalmology fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, with additional fellowship training in pediatric cornea, cataract, glaucoma, and international health at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of Pennsylvania Scheie Eye Institute, a pediatric internship at SUNY Downstate, and earned a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, with a focus on global and child health policy.
She has worked with the World Health Organization and helped implement childhood blindness prevention programs across multiple countries, collaborating with governments, academic institutions, and nonprofit organizations. Dr. Hariharan serves on national professional committees, has published extensively, contributed to textbooks, and has been recognized for her leadership and public service.
Fluent in English, Spanish, and Tamil and conversant in French, Arabic, Portuguese and Hindi., Dr. Hariharan is deeply committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to reach their full visual potential and thrive.
